The American television station CNBC has disclosed the report of one of the intelligence agencies on Russia’s new hypersonic weapon. According to the disclosure, Russia has successfully tested a hypersonic weapon the United States is currently unable to defend against, according to sources with direct knowledge of U.S. intelligence reports. Mr Fleischer made a comment on this matter for Belsat television.
The sources, who spoke to CNBC on the condition of anonymity, said Russia successfully tested the weapon, which could carry a nuclear warhead, twice in 2016. The third known test of the device, called a hypersonic glide vehicle, was carried out in October 2017 and resulted in a failure when the platform crashed seconds before striking its target. The latest revelations come more than two months after Russian President Vladimir Putin touted his nation’s growing hypersonic arsenal as “invincible.”
International economic sanctions imposed against Russia, as well as the current level of defense and space technologies, in my opinion, do not yet allow the achievement of the described results.
says Pawel Fleischer, head of the Institute for Forecasting and International Studies in Warsaw.
Pawel Fleischer, head of the Institute for Forecasting and International Studies in Warsaw, notes that demonstrations of Russian weapons serve several purposes at once: intimidation of potential adversaries, raising the authority rating among Russians and advertising Russian weapons abroad. But the present leakage of information from US intelligence is useful primarily for the US military-industrial complex.
When we hear that the Russians are creating a new system capable of breaking American missile defense, we come to the problem that Americans have an outdated system for recognizing such missiles.
